Tutorial: All About Mud

Described for this article as that big mess of mid range frequencies that cloud up your mix. Mud is what makes your mix dull, flat and lifeless.
Maybe your hats aren't standing out or your snare keeps getting buried or your rhythm instruments can't find their way into the mix. Maybe you just want to stand out from the other cats that don't take the time to clean up their tracks. Or, for whatever reason, things just don't sound balanced.
Guess what, it happens to everyone. A good producer always wants to take the next step in learning how to get better.
So, hopefully the good people here at ISK can help get you there. These tips may be a bit basic, so I apologize if you're past this, but they're also fundamental, so a refresher never hurt. Click Read More for the rest of the post.
What Software Do You Use?

I'm interested in which software you people use. It will help me when I start up the tutorials etc.
I run a Mac with Bootcamp so have full access to Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Reason 4 and FL Studio 9.
Please leave a comment as to which ones you use most or would prefer to see tutorials written on.

Download: Amdek Transition Effects

I got this weird collection of transition effects laying around so I've zipped it up for you. It's kind of like alien sirens. They're all from this machine called an Amdek Percussion Synthesiser PCK-100. There is a picture of it in the pack if you want to check it out. It's quite a cool pack so check it out.
